Unnos takes its name from the Welsh folk law Tŷ Unnos “a house in one night.” Since 2008 we’ve turned that idea of speed and ingenuity into practice, developing an engineered timber system using Welsh and homegrown timber. Today, Unnos Systems designs, manufactures and delivers precision modular buildings, volumetric and panelised – combining digital design, factory quality control and the craftsmanship behind Kenton Jones. The result is architecture-grade modules that install quickly, reduce waste and lower embodied carbon, while maintaining exacting finishes. For architects and developers, it means predictable programmes, clear detailing and beautiful outcomes.
Modules are handcrafted in Mid-Wales and landed to site where access and ecology demand care – forests, coastal settings, remote islands. In typical programmes, fully finished builds are commissioned in as little as two weeks, with installs often completed in a single day for smaller units. Minimal ground disturbance. Maximum control.
Unnos grew from the Kenton Jones workshop, where kitchens and fine joinery have been handcrafted since 1978 in Mid-Wales. That culture of timber selection, tight tolerances and finish quality refined in the Welshpool factory and Shrewsbury showroom set the benchmark we build to today.
In 2008, we began Tŷ unnos–inspired R&D to use Welsh and homegrown timber in an engineered building system. That work evolved into Unnos Systems: factory-built, dry, watertight modules with joinery-grade interiors, made in Wales, installed anywhere. Kenton Jones continues independently as a specialist kitchen and interiors brand; Unnos focuses on modular delivery for professional clients.
From engineered Douglas fir frames to larch wraps and ash interiors, we design with Welsh and homegrown timber; selected at source, milled and kilned close to our Mid-Wales factory. Natural insulation and low-impact finishes reduce embodied carbon while delivering calm, tactile spaces. Our supply chain prioritises local woodlands and responsible processing, turning regional resources into architecture-grade buildings that age gracefully.
Throughout the years, we have tried to promote and use Welsh and homegrown timber where possible in both the joinery and construction sides of the business. The unique thing about a piece of timber is that it tells a story of where it’s grown, milled, and subsequently turned into something for its final stage.
Building in a controlled environment keeps every element dry and precise from day one. Our structures and fine-finish interiors are assembled with zero water ingress, then sealed with factory-installed roofs and cladding before leaving Wales. Weather never dictates the programme; quality isn’t left to chance. The result is robust modules that land watertight and ready for rapid commissioning, with minimal disruption on site and no compromises to finish quality.
Unnos Systems delivers modular buildings for professional clients and project teams. We work business-to-business, integrating early with design and procurement to guarantee programme, quality and compliance.
We partner with architects, developers, main contractors, public-estate teams, PM/QS consultancies and engineering practices.
